Awnings are basic frames of iron, aluminum or steel with a covering made of plastic, linen fiber or woven cotton. These are used not only to give an exotic look to a house but also protect that area from sunlight or even strong winds over which they are installed. Such awnings are normally of two types - auto controlled or manual. Automated or motorized awnings run on electricity or batteries. The functioning of such awnings normally are normally remote controlled or through an electric switch. Some of the features of such an awning are briefly described under the following heads: -

-Technology based: - An automated awning usually consist of a thick shaft with a rod (galvanized iron or aluminum) connected through a covering by means of screws or nuts. For providing the sliding motion (backward or forward) the shaft is supported by two rods connected in parallel which should be equal in size. Often a heavy spring is used for providing the two and fro movement of the shaft attached in vertical with the parallel rods. A motor is fixed on the base of such an awning which controls all its movements. Different angles and positions can be monitored even if the awning is provided with an extra feature where circuit cameras are connected with the motor.

-Advantages: - There are number of points which make automated awnings as slightly upper hand than the manually driven ones. In such awnings efforts put down except in the design are very less as compared to the manual ones. More safe and secure as even a small kid can perform the functioning part associated with these awnings. Retracting these awnings is also very convenient as every function is executed through a remote control. Such an awning is more durable and lasts long without much problem. As these awnings are comparatively heavy than the manually operated ones so they can withstand to more drastic weather conditions.

-Disadvantages: - Automated awnings have a very common drawback. As these awnings are controlled by a remote control or a motor, so if any of its driving forces run down, then operating becomes a hurdle for the users. Lack of power supply or weaker battery charges can create undesired results for such awnings. Fixing such problems without a hired professional or an expert become very difficult for the owners of these retractable awnings.

-The look factor: - These automated awnings come in different shapes and designs. Their cool shades embedded with bright colors add an appealing look to whole structure. People use to install those awnings which color code and the design pattern matches with their house exterior paints. There is a wide range of shapes and sizes available in the market to select one that suits your eye while purchasing such awnings.

The above mentioned are the few of the features found in any automated awnings. But nevertheless these hold s a big part in making a house look more protected from scorching heat of the sun rays and dusty winds. These awnings even serve as a temporary shelter for the children to play and arrange a small tea party to enjoy.
