A person is likely a candidate for an abdominoplasty if they have sagging or loose skin of their abdominal wall that is frequently associated with an abnormal relaxation of the anterior abdominal wall muscles. This is secondary to multiple pregnancies prior to the procedure. A person may also desire a tummy tuck procedure if they are incapable of tightening their abdominal wall with exercise. This surgery is intended to provide a patient with a flatter, smoother abdomen.

Abdominoplasty surgery is typically performed under a general anesthesia wither in an outpatient setting or in a hospital. Mini tummy tuck surgery is capable of being performed under local anesthesia and sedation. There are three common types of tummy tuck surgery. These three procedures are known as standard tummy tuck, extended tummy tuck, and mini tummy tuck. A standard abdominoplasty will tighten all of the abdominal wall skin, an extended abdominoplasty will tighten the abdomen and flanks or sides, and the mini abdominoplasty will tighten just the lower abdominal wall. All three will result in a scar with a mini tummy tuck having the smallest and an extended abdominoplasty have the largest. The extended abdominoplasty scar will run around the sides onto the lower back.

An abdominoplasty procedure is one of the more uncomfortable cosmetic surgery procedures. One to three days of hospitalization or skilled nursing care will usually be indicated. Light activity will be comfortable in ten to twenty days. You will not comfortably be able to participate in sports for about six weeks. Additional procedures that are capable of enhancing the results of a tummy tuck are breast procedures, liposuction, or thigh lift surgery. Sometimes, if the abdominoplasty is being performed for medical reasons, the procedure may be partially covered by an insurance company. Usually, the patient will be responsible for the payment. The specific risks and the suitability of abdominoplasty surgery for any given individual can be determined only at the time of one's consultation. Every surgical procedure will have some degree of risk. Minor complications that will not affect the outcome will occasionally occur while any major complications are atypical.

Another body contouring surgery that is capable of helping many people each day is liposuction surgery. A person may be a candidate for this procedure if they have excess subcataneous fat, which will be resistant to exercise and diet. Also if you wish to alter the contours of your body. The most commonly involved liposuction areas include upper arms, under the chin, male breasts, abdomen, waist, hips, inner knees, thighs, ankles, and calves.

Patients who desire permanent improvement in their contours may also desire ultrasound lipoplasty. The use of "UAL" will allow for safer removal of larger amounts of fat than that of standard liposuction. This increase in safety can be attributed to the reduced amount of blood that is removed. This means that with UAL a person who is moderately overweight can benefit from liposuction, even though liposuction is still not a means of weight loss.
